Introduction
Hey there!
It is your friends at Smooth Body Wax Center here to help you with any questions that you may have.
Now we know that the very mention of the word “Wax” can be a bit nerve racking, however rest assured that we only use safe wax and all of our waxologists are licensed. The purpose of these blogs are to help you know what steps to take so that you will feel comfortable. Whether you are new to waxing or a regular, here are a few tips to make sure you are ready for the best waxing experience ever.
Step 1) Do Not Shave!
Waxing is the removal of the hair follicle. By shaving, you are cutting the hair in half and this will make the wax harder to grip around the hair.
Your hair should be about a quarter of an inch, no longer than the length of a grain of rice. The rice method is a great way to remember how long your hair should be.
Any longer and the waxing process will become painful, as well as it will delay the waxing process.
Step 2) Shower
Not only is showering good hygiene overall, but it also helps to wipe away bacteria that could cause folliculitis after your service. Bacteria, such as staph, are naturally present on the skin and can infect the hair follicles causing folliculitis can occur. This is a common condition and doesn't last long. If this should occur, alcohol and Neosporin will help it to go away quickly.
We recommend taking your shower a couple hours prior to your appointment as this gives your skin time to fully dry and allows your follicles to be loosened prior to your service.
Step 3.) Medication
Believe it or not, some of your medication could be making your skin more sensitive.
Medications like Accutane, Retin A and other acne medications can cause the skin to thin, putting your skin at risk of ripping. If you are taking any of these, please consult with your doctor or dermatologist prior to your waxing appointment.
If you are taking a medication or using a product that has changed your skin in any way, and you feel uncertain about the safety of waxing, please talk to your doctor first. Hopefully we can work together to make your waxing experience a great one!
Step 4.) Exfoliation
We recommend exfoliating 24 hours prior to your waxing service, but not the same day as your service. Waxing is a form of exfoliation and too much exfoliation can cause irritation on the skin, and lead to ingrown hairs.
Exfoliation is great post wax because it helps to keep the pores free from dirt and debris. This will allow the hairs to freely escape the follicle and be ready for your next wax.
Step 5.) Wear Comfortable clothes
At Smooth Body, we recommend you wear loose, comfy clothing to your appointment. This will allow you to be more comfortable after your appointment and keep your clothing from rubbing against your smooth skin.
